Chapter Seven

Pierre

“Why do you look like I’m boring you to death? If I’m that bad, why don’t you find something else to do?” Atlas asked, his gaze not moving from what he was doing.

“Like what?” Pierre asked grumpily, ignoring the comment about him being bored. Atlas was anything but boring. Pierre’s mind boggled with how Atlas managed to keep straight all the information stored in his head. He was envious of the witch’s intelligence. They’d got past Atlas’s first introduction to Pierre’s misfiring ass, and he would go as far as to say they were friends, which was why he was there bothering him. Yet again.

“Is there anything you want to do?”

Atlas was the only one that Pierre could sit with during the day without getting in the way, while Eliphas was at work. He shrugged and stared at the large, old book sat in front of Atlas. One of many books that always seemed to grace the space where Atlas worked. “No clue. Eliphas isn’t pushing me to get a job, which is good.” He reaffirmed the latter to himself more than Atlas.

Atlas arched one of his perfect brows. “I sense a ‘but’ there.”

He stopped flicking through the diary that he was adding more dates to and met Pierre’s stare. The knowing look was all witchy and said that Atlas wasn’t buying Pierre’s forced conviction.

Pierre gave a quick glance to the couple of people sitting on chairs, waiting for their appointments. Neither were there for a witchy tattoo.

He dropped his voice. “I’ve never not worked. I might not have any actual skills, you know, like you guys, but I’ve always paid my own way. Supported myself.”

He sounded petty, and it irked him when Eliphas was being so amazing and giving him space to decide what he might like to do. If he wanted to do anything at all. Eliphas had a sweet deal with Cassius and the other witches. Pierre felt like a leech and he didn’t like it.

Eliphas had transformed Pierre’s life in four glorious weeks. It resembled nothing of his past, and he was grateful for that. He truly was, only he was bored. Totally and utterly bored. Going out of his mind bored. And the guilt at feeling that way ate at him when Eliphas was working. They’d talked about it… kind of.

Eliphas loved to talk.

Did it make a difference… not really. Eliphas, being so wonderful about it, just added to the guilt pile.

Shouldn’t he be contributing to this relationship more than his ass? He voiced the question aloud, and Atlas laughed.

“I wish I could train you to take over the reception desk, but Cassius won’t let me hire anyone else.” He nudged Pierre’s shoulder. “You’re lucky to be getting sex on a regular basis, though.”

One guy closest to the reception desk glanced at them, interest in his gaze as it moved from Pierre to Atlas.

“That part is fantastic,” Pierre murmured. It was, since Eliphas had joined him in the bedroom that first time, they’d had sex in every room, on many pieces of furniture, on the floor, and a couple of walls.
